human are part of the wetlands
Local communities use wetlands area primarily for fisheries, agriculture, recreation nature/cultural-based tourism. However, it is difficult to preserve biodiversity along this coast because the mangroves are impacted by coastal development, illegal mangrove removal, pollution and non-sustainable fisheries practices. Communities are forced to adapt themselves and to look for a sustainable way to live harmony in the wetlands ecosystem.

Firefly species conservation & Ecotourism
The Kampung Kuantan firefly tour were first made famous by the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) members in the 1970's. it grew in popularity and was listed as a state tourist attraction in the 1980's. The promotion of this activity has seen in the influx of many tourists to witness what is said to be the largest.
The chance to witness the synchronized display of congregating fireflies is gaining more attention and this activity has the potential of becoming a good source of income for the local community as an ecotourism product. Despite the fact that ecotourism in areas that offer firefly river cruises are gaining more popular amongst the local and foreign tourist, the wetlands that support these crucial firefly habitats are being increasingly threatened by habitat loss, water and light pollution from urbanization and industrialization.
