What is Flyway means?
A flyway is a flight path used by migratory birds. Flyways generally span over continents and often oceans. The flyways are often channeled into narrow corridors to avoid long and dangerous sea crossing. These corridors are typically oriented in a north-south directions. Three major global flyways as identified by Birdlife International are:
- American Flyway
- African-Eurasian Flyway
- East Asian-Australasian Flyway
The East Asian-Australasian Flyway
The East Asian-Australasian Flyway extends from within the Artic Circle, through East and South east Asia, to Australia and New Zealand. Stretching across 22 countries, it is one of 8 major waterbird flyways recognised around the globe. It is the most poorly known of the world's migration routes. Extending across the most densely populated part of the world, migratory birds face extreme pressures within this flyway.

The important flyway sites in malaysia
The North Central Selangor Coast (NCSC) is one of the most important Flyway Sites in Malaysia. Stretching from the mouth of the Bernam River to the Klang River and the Klang Islands, it strectches for over a 100 km across three districts. The Kuala Selangor Nature Park (KSNP) is located centrally along the Flyway and is a major roosting area for migratory birds.
The other one is in Bako Buntal Bay in Sarawak. Malaysia being the latest partner in the EAAF Partnership has an obligation to conserve and share information with other partners along the EAA Flyway.

East Asian-australasin Flyway partnership
This is a framework for international coordination and cooperation between major organizations involved in the conservation of migratory birds in the East Asian and Australasian regions. It was established in 2006 by international organizations and NGOs such as the Ramsar Convention Secretariat to construct an international network of important bird habitats and conduct internationally collaborative operations to promote public awareness and conservation activities regarding them.
Malaysia has became the partner in 2012.
